Family-owned for eight generations, Chateau Angelus fully merits its reputation as one of the greatest wines of the entire world, let alone Bordeaux. With the estate’s 23 hectares planted to near-equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc — alongside a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon — and facing in an ideal southerly direction, the wines produced are renowned for their ripeness and silky class. Before voluntarily withdrawing from the Saint-Emilion classification, Angelus was previously one of only five estates ever to have held the coveted Premier Grand Cru Classé ‘A’ rank.
